Shielded Card Cage

View of rear-access card cage In a rear-access VV-11 chassis, the card cage is recessed. A hinged I/O panel forms an EMI shield, cool air plenum and a dust barrier. On the front-access configurations, the removable front cover panel performs these functions.

Most manufacturers build VME chassis with exposed card cages; the traditional Eurocard rack style, but less than optimal for a professional production or development environment. Exposed VME modules can be damaged, dislodged and have faceplate controls inadvertently activated. If the exposed card cage is not filled, empty card slots need blank filler plates to avoid EMI, loss of cooling air and dust contamination (which reduces heat dissipation efficiency). Zoltech's chassis design, with the recessed, shielded card cage, solves all of these problems.
